Visiting Intercourse
Intercourse dates to 1754 and was known as Cross Keys, after a local tavern, until 1814. The village sits at the crossing of Routes 340 and 772 in the middle of the county's largest Amish settlement, and buggies share the road here as a matter of course. Hollywood noticed: the 1985 Harrison Ford film Witness was shot in and around the village.
Kitchen Kettle Village is the anchor, a shopping village built around a jam and relish kitchen that has been canning Lancaster County produce since 1954, now surrounded by some forty shops, food stands, and the rooms of the Inn at Kitchen Kettle Village. Across town, The Old Country Store sells locally made quilts and Amish crafts with a quilt museum upstairs, AAA Buggy Rides leaves from the village for farm-lane loops, and the American Military Edged Weaponry Museum keeps one of the country's deepest collections of its kind.
