Visiting Manheim
Manheim is a borough in northern Lancaster County, founded in 1762 by the ironmaster and glassmaker Baron Henry William Stiegel, whose Stiegel glass is still prized by collectors. Stiegel's legacy survives in a local tradition: each June, Zion Lutheran Church pays a symbolic rent of one red rose, the "Feast of Roses," to his descendants. The town sits along the Rife Run about 12 miles north of Lancaster City.
Just outside town, Mount Hope Estate & Winery hosts the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire across late summer and fall, along with the Celtic Fling and a theater series staged inside the Victorian mansion. Roots Country Market, running every Tuesday since 1925, is one of the county's classic farmers-and-flea markets.
Manheim has become a sports destination too. Spooky Nook Sports, the largest indoor sports complex in North America, draws tournaments year-round and includes an on-site hotel. Families fill out a visit at Laserdome, Pinch Pond Family Campground, and Twin Kiss for soft-serve, while Artifice Ales & Mead and the Prussian Street Arcade anchor a growing downtown scene.
