A Weekend in Lancaster

First Friday

Arrive on the first Friday of the month, and check in to one of Lancaster’s thriving hotels, like the Marriot at the Lancaster County Convention Center, or if you prefer a bed and breakfast, try the Village Inn in nearby Strasburg. That evening, check out the arts & culture festival that is First Friday. Art galleries are open late, restaurants have special deals, and you can meet lots of fellow tourists and native Lancastrians.

Saturday in Strasburg

Strasburg may be famous for its railroad, but not to be overlooked are the Strasburg Shoppes which feature homemade ice cream at the Creamery, and fudge at the Country Store, as well as a bakery and winery on site. You can even stay overnight at one of Strasburg’s only remaining Bed and Breakfasts. Though you could easily spend a day moseying around the Strasburg Shoppes, consider visiting one of the best restaurants in Strasburg, PA, Katie’s Amish Kitchen, which features homemade delectable delights daily (except for Sunday) including decadent desserts such as homemade pies, tapioca, chocolate and pumpkin rolls, milkshakes, and of course, ice cream. If you are a thrifty shopper, Sweet Charity Shop Boutique is for you – they even donate a portion of their profits to charity!

Sunday Fun Day

There are many churches in Strasburg, including Wesley United Methodist, First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, and St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. For golfers, Lancaster is a true paradise. Between nationally acclaimed miniature golf courses like Village Greens, immaculate 9-hole courses like Willow Valley, and full 18-hole courses such as Overlook, there is truly a golfing adventure for everyone. If you visit in the summer, you won’t want to miss the Long’s Park Sunday Summer Concert Series, which features a mix of local groups, and groups with national acclaim and prominence. Year round, you can catch a matinee at the historic Fulton Opera House (see calendar), which produces Broadway-quality shows at half the price. Cap it all off with a trip to one of the great restaurants in Lancaster, and you have had yourself a fun, friendly, affordable, family getaway to Lancaster, PA!
