Make & Take: Gourd Jack-o-Lantern

This fall, adorn your table or porch with something delightfully different: a one-of-a-kind jack-o-lantern made from a gourd instead of a pumpkin. During this workshop, led by Wendy Overdorf of YellowSeventeen, you’ll stain your gourd, spray it, paint it and then decorate it to create your jack-o-lantern or other design.
Wendy is a local artist who comes from a family of “gourd-heads” and who has been creating art from gourds for 30 years. She and her daughter operate YellowSeventeen, to produce and sell birdhouses, ornaments and other decorative objects made from gourds. Their hand-painted creations, as well as craft-ready gourds, are available through their Etsy shop and at our Artisan Village. Visit Website - two workshop times available.

Visitors to the site, which features a remarkably preserved water-powered grain mill, step back in time to learn about milling history along the banks of scenic Mill Creek. The adjacent 1855 miller's house, home to three generations of Resslers, is a clear window to early 20th century housekeeping and family life. The home is preserved just as it was when brother and sister Franklin and Anna Ressler offered their neighbors the finest flour, along with neighborly hospitality.
